Text Box: Text Box: ABOUT US

Principium is a non-profit organization based in Las Vegas NV dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of all people, no matter the economic or social background.

Principium believes interdependency is possible by developing partnerships and relationships between businesses, other organizations and communities. Principium will achieve its goal by providing and reinforcing economic, social, and cultural acceptance throughout communities.

MISSION

The mission of Principium is to improve the quality of life of every man, woman and child by providing services that are required in order to help take these individuals to the next stage in life. Principium’s commitment of the betterment of all people has no bounds. Principium follows the belief that every person plays a part in shaping the future of the world. Therefore, it is everyone’s responsibility to be productive in any way possible.

CHALLENGE
Principium recognizes the ever-growing need for an economic and social support system that promotes positive growth within our communities. Not being able to overcome the cultural, religious, and ethnic diversities prevents individuals from growing and meeting, and more importantly exceeding their potential. Principium acknowledges that people have a problem breaking the cycle of status quo. Reaching beyond that invisible line and seeing the potential is a constant challenge that has yet to be undertaken.

SOLUTION

The best way to meet this challenge is to encourage creating programs and events by those living and working closest to where the problems are located, to promote collaboration among the nonprofit and businesses, and to ensure participation by men and women from diverse communities and at all levels of society. Principium wants to be part of the solution by offering consistent programs and projects that require neighborhood participation. Each event is built on the premise that it takes a village to raise a child, therefore pulling resources and support from the surrounding communities is important. Principium events rely on community volunteers and support. Changing how each community participates and involves itself in events that occur within their neighborhood, will alter how each individual sees the neighborhood they reside within. The outlook of the community becomes more positive and the more positive the attitude, the better the neighborhood feels, and the better the neighborhood prospers. Principium believes that change must be both external and internal; therefore, a positive change in what an individual sees will cause a chain reaction and change how that individuals feels eventually causing a positive change within their lives.

LATEST PROJECTS

“The Makeover” is an ongoing project that brings communities closer together and increases property value through beautifying neighborhoods. Its design is to create an atmosphere of unity, pride, and safety. Principium believes that in order to begin changing communities, change must occur from within. Getting people to put their own blood sweat and tears into their neighborhood will give them a reason to keep it looking presentable and safe. The great thing about “The Makeover” is its ability to bring together and beautify all neighborhoods without economic status restraints.

“The Makeover” benefits communities socially and economically. Typical programs that are currently available to communities need a new angle. Empowering communities with the ability to change the look of their community will open the doors of opportunity. The trickle down effect is the best way to describe how making one change will foster an entire community adjustment. The first noticeable effect will be the increase in property value as the neighborhood becomes more and more presentable. The second will be the influx of larger businesses like Starbucks. Big business likes to move into areas of progress and the nicer the area, the bigger the businesses. The more money poured into the area by businesses, the better the area becomes.

KCEP is the first building re-surface project under “The Makeover”. The KCEP building used to be the Westside School of Las Vegas. Built in 1923 with an addition built in 1949, the school served the community until its closing in 1967. KCEP soon took over the building. Founded October 7, 1974, KCEP served as a community leader. For 3 decades, this station has seen Las Vegas evolve into the city it is today. The purpose of this event is to reintroduce 88.1 to the greater Las Vegas area and to the local communities. It celebrates the institution of KCEP and everything it stands for. It reinforces the importance of consistency within communities from an organization whose philosophy has not changed and reinforces the relationship built between KCEP and its listeners.

This project involves gathering community members together to help paint the buildings that make up KCEP. Getting local businesses to support this effort through money or supply donation is part of building that community unity. It involves standing together under one project of unity to bring the community closer together.
